Across Europe, where science and research are core values, 13 May is now celebrated as European Doctoral Day — a day to highlight the vital role of doctoral education and the impact of doctoral graduates as key agents of innovation. A day to recognise their role in helping society navigate a rapidly changing world and in shaping Europe’s scientific, economic, industrial, and technological future.

The European Doctoral Day webinar hosted together by the Union of Research Professionals (Tieteentekijät) and the Council of Rectors of Finnish Universities (Unifi) will discuss the doctoral researchers’ status in the university community and how to support professionalism of research careers during doctoral education:

What does it mean to be a student and a researcher at the same time? What is the status of doctoral researchers in the Finnish university system? How doctoral education supports research careers and professionalism? How can doctoral researchers participate in university democracy?

The webinar will tackle these topical questions around doctoral education.
