Welcome to Research Professionals’ open webinar on Tuesday, 7 October 2025, from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM to discuss the working life of doctoral researchers. The webinar will be held in English and conducted via Teams.
Topics of discussion will include employment conditions under different types of funding, supervision of doctoral researchers, career prospects for PhD holders, as well as current issues in the development of doctoral education in Finland.
The webinar is open to everyone interested but is particularly targeted at doctoral researchers who have recently started their dissertation work.

You can submit questions to our speakers via the registration form. We will use the questions for our panel discussion at the end of the webinar.
Speakers of the webinar:
Miia Ijäs-Idrobo, PhD, senior adviser, Union of Research Professionals. Miia will present issues and good-to-know facts related to working conditions under different forms of funding, as well as career prospects of early career researchers and PhD holders.
Reetta Muhonen, PhD, university researcher, Tampere University. Reetta is part of the research project following the national doctoral education pilot program. She will introduce the research project and its current findings from the pilot program from the viewpoint of both doctoral researchers and their supervisors.
Annu Perttunen, PhD, director of the doctoral school, University of Oulu. Annu will present how doctoral education is being developed at her university, following the national recommendations on the development of doctoral education published by Unifi, the Council of Rectors of Finnish Universities in 2024.
Felix Epp, PhD, postdoctoral researcher, Aalto University. Felix completed his PhD in Engineering and Technology at Aalto University in 2023. He will share thoughts on his PhD journey, and career after!
