Veera Keski-Säntti, Master of Laws, stepped into her role as Lawyer at FUURT in October. Her primary task at FUURT is to provide legal advice and guidance to Union members.
Veera brings to the job diverse work experience in labour law and legal counselling. Earlier, she worked for four years at a law firm specialising in labour law, where she assisted employees and small companies in dealing with labour law disputes. Veera is moving to FUURT from her previous position at Technology Industries of Finland. At her previous job, her duties included a lot of member counselling, which she sees as having provided her with a great foundation for her current position in FUURT.
‘I grew interested in the role of a labour market lawyer while working for the employer organisation. I was, however, looking to gain a slightly different perspective on the work, so I decided to apply to a position within an employee organisation. Understanding the viewpoints of the employers is also enormously helpful in my current position’, Veera sums up.
‘One of my strengths is being able to explain complicated legal matters in a way that’s easy to understand. I always endeavour to do my best to offer members well-informed and structured advice in every situation’, she adds.
Veera’s duties include ensuring that the employment relationships of our members are in compliance with the law and applicable collective agreements. Whenever this is not the case, Veera helps our members by providing legal support for their individual situation.
‘In general, the sector of labour law is a very diverse, interesting, and constantly changing field. I feel that my work is meaningful because I am helping members to navigate difficult situations in working life. I believe I will also be challenging myself because, despite my labour law experience, the university sector comes with its own special issues, such as those related to copyright and the position of grant-funded researchers’, Veera states.
Veera is able to serve members in Finnish and English. She is available to provide legal counselling to Union members by phone on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and Thursdays from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at +358 (0)207 589 621. To balance her working life, Veera enjoys doing Crossfit and spending time with family and friends.
