Training opportunities and support for occupational well-being for academics!

As the autumn grows darker, FUURT offers its members special support for their careers and occupational well-being. The training events and peer support have been specifically planned for the special circumstances caused by the coronavirus and remote working in the daily lives of academics.

Facilitated workshops series:

Career, well-being and interaction in change and remote/online environments

The target group: esp. for early career and international researchers, suitable for all FUURT members interested in career planning, job searching and well-being in remote work/environment.

Online course in English consisting of 3 sessions (facilitated workshops), independent exercises, peer support and group discussions. Length of the whole course c. 7 weeks.

Maximum number of participants: 30.

Registration will close when all the places are reserved (max. 30 participants).

Workshops

Workshop 1: Well-being and self-management in change and remote environments

Coach Reetta Viinanen

Managing yourself and your own work gets its own additional challenges as many people’s work has shifted to home offices and different remote and online environments. Days are full of change and adaptation to the new. How to take care of your own well-being in a new situation?

In this workshop, participants will get concrete tools to support both well-being and the management of one’s own work. During the workshop, there will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.

Workshop 2: Job searching in exceptional situation

Coach Heta Aali

The two-hour workshop will focus on identifying the transferable skills one acquires as a researcher and how they are marketed to potential employers outside university. Secondly, the workshop will focus on job seeking documents – both in and outside academia. Thirdly, the workshop will look into practical questions such as how and where one can find job opportunities that are not advertised publicly. During the workshop, there will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.

Workshop 3: Interaction and sociality in change and remote environments

Communication and interaction have shifted from squirrels and coffee makers to a variety of virtual environments. How to communicate clearly, to be understood and to have a very important conversation in remote environments. How to build trust through the network and streamline the achievement of common goals. This workshop will focus on developing your communication and interaction skills and we will work together to consider the best communication practices for you. During the workshop, there will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.

Heta Aali

Heta has a PhD in Cultural History and in addition to working as a career coach at UP! Partners, she works as a researcher at the University of Turku. She combines science with practice.

Heta is passionate about helping especially academic job seekers to find their full potential. The job opportunities exist both in and outside the academia, and one path does not exclude the other.

Reetta Viinanen

Communications and Mental Coach Reetta has worked in communication, interaction and change management for 15 years. For Reetta it is important to enable change with concrete tools, taking care of people’s well-being.

As a coach, Reetta is an encouraging inspirer who wants to increase people’s interaction skills and personal performance.
