Sinikka Strömmer stepped into her role as a lawyer for Research Professionals

At the beginning of December, the Research Professionals team was enhanced with the addition of Sinikka Strömmer, Master of Laws, who stepped into her position as a lawyer for the Union. She brings with her strong labour law experience from employee organisations.

Prior to her work at Research Professionals, Sinikka worked as a labour law lawyer for the Union of Private Sector Professionals Erto, and before that, in similar positions for the Professionals of Business and Technology. Her strengths include, in particular, negotiation competence, advisory work, and training.

What do you expect from your work at Research Professionals?

“I’ve been working in labour law for several years, but I’m sure I’ll learn a lot more about the specifics of working life for research professionals. I find advocacy on behalf of researchers and research work to be very important, particularly now that we constantly need to emphasise the value of research. It is of paramount importance to foster research work and to ensure that scientific knowledge is taken into consideration in decision-making. I appreciate the curiosity and perseverance of research professionals!”

As a lawyer for the Union, Sinikka’s responsibilities include supporting and advising members and shop stewards on issues related to labour law, unemployment, and social security, and participating in the preparation of advocacy positions within the working groups of the Union and JUKO.

Outside of work, she also keeps very busy. Sinikka first trained as a dancer, but her current creative endeavours focus on visual arts, especially photography. In addition, she enjoys fencing and serves as a volunteer mediator in civil disputes and criminal matters at the City of Helsinki’s Mediation Office.

We warmly welcome her to Research Professionals!

Sinikka can be reached for legal counselling by phone on Tuesdays 9–12 noon and Thursdays 12 noon–4 p.m. at +358 (0)207 589 621. Outside of these hours, she can be contacted through the e-service.
