Siiri Nousiainen, M.A., has started her work as the Head of Communications of the Finnish Union of University Researchers and Teachers (FUURT) in August. She will be acting in this position as a substitute for Eevastiina Aho during her leave of absence until January 2025.
Siiri joined FUURT from CSC, where she worked as Communications Specialist in the Digivisio 2030 programme of Finnish higher education institutions. Before that, she has worked in posts related to communication and advocacy work for the National Union for University Students in Finland (SYL) and Plan International Finland.
“So far, my career has included work in the higher education sector and organisations, where I have concentrated on social advocacy work. It feels good to, once again, have the opportunity to focus on organisational work. Working for FUURT allows me to make use of my competence in strategic communications to support advocacy work and the promotion of interests.”
Siiri has previously worked, among others, as a specialist in communication and advocacy, and she has gained experience in communication work ranging from budgetary advocacy to parliamentary election campaigns. To mention a few of her former tasks, she has been responsible for advocacy planning as well as strategic development and practical implementation of communications.
“FUURT’s mission as a defender of research-based knowledge and the prerequisites of scientific work speaks strongly to me. It is truly great to work in an organisation whose purpose also feels significant to me personally.”
At FUURT, Siiri is responsible for the strategic development of communication, management of internal communication and marketing of Union membership.
“In addition to advocacy work, it is important for me to use communication as a means of supporting the operating conditions of our member organisations. The activities of our member organisations are a valuable asset for the entire Union, and I look forward to actively collaborating with them on developing communications and enhancing member acquisition.”
Siiri’s leisure activities include gym training, band practice and participation in various cultural events.
