The Union of Research Professionals pays strike allowance to its members who have lost income due to participating in a strike. The amount of strike allowance is based on the decision of the Union Board. Strike allowance can be applied after the strike through an online application.
A strike can be targeted at a specific industry, individual companies, personnel groups or certain positions. The union has members not only in universities, but also in the private sector, municipalities and the state, for example. The amount of allowance for a specific strike will be announced when the strike decision has been made.
Strike allowance is paid to a member who has lost income due to participating in a strike in a work position that has been declared to be subject to the strike. A member is eligible to strike allowance if the union membership has begun before the strike start date and if membership fees have been paid appropriately. Strike allowance is paid for each strike day for which the employer has withheld wages, but for a maximum of five days a week.
The strike allowance application must be submitted within two weeks of the announced end date of the strike. 16 euros of the strike allowance is tax-free, the remaining part is subject to taxation in accordance with the Tax Administration’s decision. The tax is paid directly by the union to the tax authorities. A tax card is not required.
Applying for strike allowance
Before filling in the strike allowance application, visit the union’s e-services and check that your membership fees are in order and that your workplace information is up to date. This way, we know that you work at the workplace that was affected by the strike and are entitled to strike allowance.
Strike allowance is applied for electronically through the lakkoavustus.fi service.
Log in to the system with your online banking credentials or mobile certificate. The online application works best with the latest versions of Firefox browser and Chrome browser.
