Research Professionals is participating in the scientific community’s #Vertaisarvioin (peer review) social media campaign, which highlights the work of those ensuring research quality. The campaign emphasises that science cannot exist without peer review.
Peer review is a form of dialogue among researchers—an essential but often invisible collective effort. This initiative makes the process and its contributors more visible while also shedding light on its complexity, significance, and diversity.
“Ensuring the reliability of scientific knowledge is always relevant, especially in today’s media and communication landscape. Peer review is the foundation of science, states Professor Pauliina Raento, Secretary General of the Finnish Association of Scholarly Publishing (Suomen tiedekustantajien liitto in Finnish).
The campaign features prominent academics, such as Professor Tuomas Forsberg (International Politics), Professor Juhani Knuuti (Director, PET Center), Professor Leena-Maija Rossi (Gender Studies), Professor Tuija Saresma (Cultural Studies), and University Researcher Johanna Vuorelma.
“Peer review is a crucial part of belonging to the research community. Peer reviewers share responsibility for ensuring that published articles meet scientific standards and apply their expertise to benefit each other, emphasises Professor Tuija Saresma, Academic of the Year 2022.
Launched at the end of 2024 as part of the Year of Knowledge (Sivistyksen teemavuosi), the campaign is coordinated by KVS Foundation on behalf of the Finnish Association of Scholarly Publishing.
