Shaping the Future of Doctoral Education

Join us on 16 February 2024 from 1 to 3 p.m. for an event focusing on the development of doctoral training and the newly funded state initiative, the Doctoral Education Pilot.

The Finnish government has committed to enhancing doctoral education, allocating funding to the Doctoral Education Pilot. Between 2024 and 2027 the programme will fund up to 1000 new fixed-term doctoral researcher positions in flagship areas across Finnish universities, aiming to test new practices in doctoral education and increase the mobility of doctoral researchers between different sectors. The overarching goal is to produce highly skilled professionals for the labour market, ensuring that substantial investments in research, development, and innovation translate effectively into societal impact.

During the event, we will engage in discussions surrounding the current state and future trajectory of doctoral education. We will explore diverse aspects of doctoral education from PhD supervision and researcher career paths to research funding, and of course the anticipated outcomes of the Doctoral Education Pilot.

Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of the conversation on shaping the landscape of doctoral education and contributing to the future of research in Finland!
