Maija S. Peltola to continue as the President of the Union

At its meeting on 28 November, the autumn Union meeting of the Finnish Union of University Researchers and Teachers elected new Presidents and a new Board for the Union.  

Professor Maija S. Peltola will continue as the President of the Union for the next two-year term.

Peltola is a Professor of Phonetics at the University of Turku, where she heads the learning research laboratory she founded. She has more than 20 years of diverse experience in academic representation positions. She has been the President of the University of Turku Researchers, Teachers and Lecturers since 2010 and one of the Presidents of the Union for the last four years.

Tero Karjalainen (Association of Researchers and Teachers in Eastern Finland) and Sanni Tiitinen (Tampere University Association of Researchers and Teachers) were elected as Vice Presidents for the period 2021-22.

Tero Karjalainen, PhD, works at the University of Eastern Finland as a Research Manager and is the President of the Association of Researchers and Teachers in Eastern Finland. He has served as the Union’s Vice President between 2008-09 and 2019-20.

Sanni Tiitinen, PhD (Soc. Sc.), works as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Tampere and was recently elected President of the Tampere University Association of Researchers and Teachers for the second term.

The Union meeting also selected the members and deputy members of the Union Board for 2021.

In accordance with the rules of the Union, the Union meeting approved an action plan for 2021, membership fees, budget, remuneration, the election of auditors, the election of the President and Vice Presidents, the election of the Board, and the Union meeting initiatives. The membership fee will remain unchanged.
