HUART is looking for a part-time Advocacy & Communications Specialist: Apply by 10 January 2025

Helsinki University Association for Researchers and Teachers (HUART) is searching for an Advocacy & Communications Specialist to support the development and implementation of HUART’s communications and advocacy work, in line with the association’s strategy  The Specialist will work closely with HUART’s Organizational Secretary and the Board to support advocacy efforts and to improve services for members.  

HUART is a labor union for both Finnish and international researchers, teachers, doctoral researchers, and other academic and administrative experts at the University of Helsinki, and a member association of nation-wide Tieteentekijät.

 Specific tasks of the Specialist include

  • Oversight of associations’ communications,
  • Developing and implementing a communication plan, 
  • Member communications, including producing a regular newsletter for members, 
  • External communications and marketing (of events, membership), 
  • Coordination with relevant stakeholders, and 
  • Updating and managing HUART’s website and social media.
  • Development, coordination, and implementation of yearly advocacy themes related to defending and improving working conditions at the University of Helsinki. 
  • Participation in HUART’s working groups and the planning of the association’s activities and events. 

The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications and competencies

  • Experience in multi-channel communication and advocacy work. 
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills. 
  • Understanding of communications tools and fluency in use and content production for social media. Multilingual skills are a plus.
  • Independent work ethic and ability to organize your own work and working time. 
  • This is a new role created to boost communication and advocacy work related to HUART’s topical issues. We are therefore looking for a candidate who is motivated to proactively develop the role and ways of working.

HUART offers a continuous, part-time (40-50%) position starting in February or by agreement. The salary is 20€ /h. The position is subject to a 6-month probationary period.
