MELA Insurance Seminar

You’re invited to HUART’s MELA Insurance Seminar on Tuesday 10th November, 15.30–17.00.

The seminar is part of our Academic Self Defence series. The series helps international researchers and teachers understand current issues at the University and find your way through its systems of salaries, contracts and funding.

This autumn we’re focusing on MELA insurance.

If you work on a grant, you’re probably required to take out MYEL insurance with MELA. It covers your pension and accident insurance, and it affects your Kela benefits. But grant researchers often tell us the system is confusing. That’s especially true for international colleagues, who struggle to see what benefits they get from it.

This event is for grant researchers at the University of Helsinki, especially international ones, who want to understand MELA and how it affects them.

What are the benefits of MELA? How do you apply for support when you need it? And how does it affect internationals? What happens when you leave Finland?

To help answer these questions, we’ve invited Ari Jouhki, Team Leader at MELA. After Ari’s presentation, there will be plenty of time for your questions.

You can also send us your questions in advance when you sign up. We’ll share them with Ari so he can come prepared.

The evening is led by our International Affairs Working Group. We’re always looking for members to join the Working Group, and you can find out more and sign up here.

The event is online and in English.
