You are invited to HUART’s Unemployment Fund Seminar on Thursday 21st May, 16.00-17.30
The event is part of our Academic Self Defence Event series, which aim to improve the readiness of researchers and teachers to understand current issues at the University and to enable you to navigate the university’s systems of salaries, contracts and funding.
This Spring we are focusing on the Unemployment Fund.
No one wants to become unemployed but the nature of our sector means researchers often have temporary stages of unemployment between contracts and funding. Our members often say the Unemployment Fund is the number one reason to join the union. But many international members of staff don’t know about it!
So our event is aimed at international members of staff at the University of Helsinki who want to find out more.
How does it work? Who is eligible for it? How and when can you claim support? And do recent changes in government policy impact the unemployment fund for internationals?
To help us answer these questions, we’ve invited Saana Huhtanen & Raita Laine from OTE-kassa(the organisation who manage our Unemployment Fund) and Reetta Kuosmanen, Tieteentekijät’s Chief Negotiator.
Following presentations by Saana, Raita and Reetta, there will be time for questions.
The event is online and will be in english.
