LAPIN TIETEENTEKIJÄT

Lapin tieteentekijät ry (University Researchers and Teachers of Lapland, registered association) has been established in Rovaniemi in 1984. 

Lati aims to connect people who work in Lapland University Consortium or in Lapland as researchers, teachers, academic experts, in iformation servives, in administration and the other members of the association.

The association oversees its members legal affairs, social and financial rights and supports them in their career development plans.

Some key topics in Lati’s action plan 2022

Salient themes of activities in 2022 are as follows:

University Researchers and Teachers of Lapland (hence Lati) gears up for the negotiation round of the university sector together with other personnel organisations and prepares for the possibility of a strike.

Lati aims to advance in the university administration the proposal made in 2021 concerning the status of grant-funded researchers. The model, launched by the University of Eastern Finland, of offering a 10-percent employment relationship to all grant-funded researchers fullfilling the criteria is also being introduced in some other universities. Lati aims to advance the model at least into a trial phase at the University of Lapland.

Lati follows closely the ongoing revision of the Lapland University Consortium’s rules of procedure.

Lati actively uses the financial surplus accrued in the previous years for the benefit of its members. During the financial year, the association strives to organise for its members more and a wider variety of activities than previously, and more funds than in the previous years will be used to accomplish the activities.

In addition to the special themes of the financial year, Lati’s salient and fixed tasks include the the following:

Lati defends the status of the personnel and the university’s role as a credible academic community. Among the most important issues is to secure the status of grant-funded researchers in using the grants awarded to them.

Overall, Lati strives to advance long-term, open and fair personnel planning and recruiting culture at the university.

Lati also actively continues to advance the genuine implementation of the four-stage researcher career model at the university of Lapland.

Lati is frequently in contact with the university management and strives to advance a collaboration-based operating culture and anticipatory and open communication at the university. Meetings between the rector and Lati’s representatives once a month are an important channel of communication.

Lati aspires to ensure the participation of its representatives in the university’s working groups that are important in view of the members.

Lati also actively advances the status of members other than researchers and emphasises that first-rate teaching and research need competent student services, administration, and library services.

Lati strives to enhance the status of its international members in the university community.

Lati delivers information of its operations and endeavours to recruit new members. Communication in the English language is invested in. Lati’s Facebook page that is used for communication will be continuously updated.

Lati cooperates closely with other personnel organisations at the university. When necessary, Lati may be in contact with the personnel and personnel organisations of sectoral research institutions in Lapland and with actors such as Lapin tutkimusseura (Lapland research association) if, for instance, the research policy-related discourse requires a jointly formulated output that includes the viewpoint of Lapland.

Lati continues close collaboration with FUURT, its working groups, and its member organisations. The association sends its representatives to the autumn and spring general assemblies and to association days.
